Can you expand rooms in Sims 2 like in 4?

I’m doing a rags to riches story in Sims 2 and whenever I want to expand a room in their house, it seems like I have to fully demolish an end of the room, and then manually build it out every time I want to expand it a bit, versus the Sims 4 where you could just drag a preexisting wall out in build mode to expand the room . Is there a tool I’m missing or is this just how it is in this game? lol
